LETRS Spotlight: Leslee Lusk
“I wanted to share part of my phonics lesson from this morning—it follows the lesson structure from my LETRS manual, and I LOVE it! My students were fully engaged from start to finish.
We began by reviewing last week’s concept, then introduced a new skill. I modeled tapping, mapping, and writing words before students worked collaboratively with letter tiles to build words. Each student then used a phoneme-grapheme mapping grid to reinforce their understanding, and we ended by reading a decodable passage together.
I am already seeing growth in my students’ confidence and skills. LETRS has helped me become more intentional in my instruction, and I feel like I’ve learned so much—and I’m just getting started with Unit 4!”
We are so proud of Mrs. Lusk and her commitment to her LETRS journey. Her dedication to strengthening literacy instruction is making a meaningful difference for her students each day.

Hands-on learning is in full swing in Megan Crutchfield’s kindergarten classroom.
Students are building strong number sense and fluency through engaging math stations—using UNO cards for addition, modeling teen numbers with manipulatives, composing numbers with playdough, and practicing subitizing with dice and pop-it boards. They are also identifying missing numbers, checking each other’s work, and working with their teacher to decompose numbers for deeper understanding.
These meaningful, interactive experiences support the Concrete–Representational–Abstract (CRA) progression, helping students move from hands-on exploration to visual representation and ultimately to abstract thinking.
