Today at Berlin McKinney Elementary School we had the great honor of celebrating one of our third grade students, Paisley Paynter! She won state recognition for her fire safety poster. She was honored and recognized by State Fire Marshall Tyree, Robbie Bailey and the Oceana Fire Department represented by Chief Arvin Drake and Chuck Childers. Her work was framed and she also received a letter from Governor Jim Justice congratulating her on a great job. She received several plaques and certificates honoring her work. We are so proud of you Paisley! We would also like to thank her art teacher Mr. Cory Williams for always providing opportunities for our students to succeed.👏🏼❤️

Special guests Kenneth Tyree, WV State Fire Marshal, Robbie Bailey, WV Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal, Mike Goode Pineville Fire Department Chief, and Logan Cook, Pineville Fire Department Firefighter presented her with an award and certificate from Governor Jim Justice. Mr. Nathan Short’s AP biology students experimented to determine if Double Stuffed Oreos are actually double stuffed, and then used standard deviation and standard error of the mean calculations to determine the accuracy of their data.

Westside forensic students in Mr. Nathan Short’s class performed microscopic hair analysis to differentiate between animal hairs and different human hairs. Also, they created presentations showcasing the roles of different crime scene investigators, the process of mapping out a crime scene, and evidence collection steps for a mock crime scene.#ShowcaseWyCoSchools
