Congratulations to Mr. Adam Perdue, and Oceana Middle School, for being selected as a State Finalist in the 2023-2024 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM Competition! Mr. Perdue’s Science classroom will receive $2,500 in Samsung technology, and could be awarded with up to $12,000 if named as a state winner!

Westside biology students investigated the differences between plant and animal cells that are visible microscopically, viewing and photographing samples of each.

Westside anatomy students used microscopes and photography to observe and investigate different tissue types and their visible characteristics.

Westside AP biology students solved for surface area, volume, and the ratio between the two for different containers to compare those ratios to the same within cells. Students tried to use these values to determine why most cells are small in size with a high surface area to volume ratio.
