Brittany Smith, PreK teacher at Road Branch, is embracing her LETRS journey and strengthening early literacy for our youngest learners. “Starting my LETRS journey has already helped me think more deeply about how children learn language, sounds, and early literacy skills. I feel excited and motivated because the learning is helping me better understand the ‘why’ behind the strategies I use in my preschool classroom. I am already using what I am learning by being more intentional with read-alouds, building phonological awareness through songs and rhymes, and giving children more opportunities to hear and play with sounds in words. This journey is helping me grow as a teacher and strengthen the foundation my students need to become confident readers.” #ShowcaseWyCoSchools #LoveMyWVSchool #PublicSchoolProudWV

Family + literacy = powerful impact. Morgan and her mother-in-law, Becky Farley, are teaming up to strengthen reading skills for their students. Through their LETRS professional learning, they collaborate beyond the classroom—sharing strategies for whole and small group instruction and using diagnostic tools to close learning gaps. In Becky’s 1st grade classroom, students are building a strong foundation with Heggerty, sound articulation, and phoneme-grapheme mapping—setting the stage for lifelong reading success. In Morgan’s 3rd grade classroom, students are strengthening their spelling and vocabulary through targeted phonics instruction, deepening comprehension across texts. Together, they are making a difference—one reader at a time. #ShowcaseWyCoSchools #LoveMyWVSchool #PublicSchoolProudWV
