🎉 GREAT NEWS — WYOMING COUNTY SCHOOLS! 🏫 ALL WYOMING COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL REOPEN MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, AND RESUME NORMAL OPERATIONS! We are pleased to announce that all schools across Wyoming County will return to their regular schedules on Monday, including Mullens Elementary & Middle School, Wyoming East High School, and Westside High School. 🧹 ServPro has completed its cleaning and sanitation work at our schools. We want to extend a sincere THANK YOU to ServPro, the Wyoming County Health Department, our custodians, maintenance teams, transportation staff, administrators, teachers, and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes throughout this process. 💙 To our parents, students, and community, thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation during a challenging week. We know the disruptions were difficult, and we truly appreciate your support. The health and safety of our students and staff will always remain our top priority. Wyoming County Schools hosted professional learning for K–3 Interventionists focused on UFLI Foundations, a research-based program designed to strengthen students’ foundational reading skills through systematic and explicit phonics instruction. This training supports our commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction that meets students’ individual needs and builds the essential skills necessary for reading success. Amanda Shelton, with Marshall University, met with our Universal Pre-K teaching teams for Group Coaching focused on Early Childhood Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (ECPBIS) and the Pyramid Model. The session emphasized the importance of using positive, descriptive feedback to celebrate children’s successes, strengthen relationships, and promote positive classroom behaviors. Inspiring Future Authors and Illustrators in Wyoming County!!! What a special day for our K–2 students at Berlin McKinney and Pineville Elementary Schools! We were excited to welcome native West Virginia author and illustrator Ashley Belote for a fun and inspiring visit. Ms. Belote shared a read-aloud of her book, Little Red and Big, Bad Fred, and then brought her story to life in a whole new way by teaching our students how to draw one of the characters! The children had a wonderful time listening, creating, and discovering their own artistic talents. 📚 REMINDER FOR WYOMING COUNTY SCHOOLS FAMILIES Just a reminder about our school calendar for the remainder of this week: ⏰ Thursday, October 8 – 3-Hour Early Release Students will be dismissed 3 hours early for Faculty Senate. 📘 Friday, October 9 – Professional Learning Day There will be NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS on Friday. Staff will report for scheduled professional learning. Please note: These scheduled days are not related to the recent health concerns or school closures. They have been part of the school calendar since the beginning of the school year. Please plan accordingly for Thursday’s early dismissal and Friday’s student day off. 🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE — WYOMING COUNTY SCHOOLS We want to provide our families, staff, and community with the latest information regarding our ongoing cleaning efforts. 🧹 SERVPRO CLEANING ServPro will continue working through Sunday to thoroughly clean and sanitize the facilities at: 🔹 Mullens Elementary & Middle School 🔹 Wyoming East High School 🔹 Westside High School 🏈EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES We understand how important extracurricular activities are to our students and families. Extracurricular facilities and activities will be released to resume as ServPro completes the necessary cleaning of those areas. We will communicate those updates as individual facilities are cleared so that our students can safely return to activities as soon as possible. 💨 FIELD HOUSE IMPROVEMENTS As an additional precaution, dehumidifiers have been added to our field houses, and work is underway to add or repair air conditioning where needed. These steps are being taken to help improve conditions within those facilities. 🤝 We appreciate the continued patience and cooperation of our students, families, staff, coaches, and community as this work is completed. 💙 The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. Our school nurses are available to help answer questions and provide guidance to our families.
