We’re proud to celebrate Jaquetta Lester and her dedication to early literacy! Through her work in LETRS and Heggerty, she is bringing the science of reading to life in her kindergarten classroom every day.
“I love the connection between my LETRS learning and Heggerty practices. LETRS has helped me understand how students learn to read, and Heggerty helps me apply it in meaningful, consistent ways.”
Jaquetta is empowering students through hands-on strategies—like using mirrors to explore how sounds are formed—strengthening phonemic awareness, articulation, and building strong foundations for reading success.

Through explicit, systematic instruction in phonology and orthographic mapping, I’m better able to target my students’ specific needs. LETRS has also shown me the importance of balancing decoding with language comprehension so students can become skilled readers.”
Thank you, Becki, for your dedication to strengthening literacy instruction and helping every student grow into a confident, capable reader!

Wyoming County Schools is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Sherry Bailey, a beloved member of the Westside High family.
For many years, Mrs. Bailey served our students and staff with kindness, warmth, and a smile that brightened her cafeteria line. Her care and dedication nourished not only our bodies, but our spirits as well.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, work family, students, and all whose lives she touched.

Due to an unexpected emergency, Westside High School will be closed on Tuesday, February 18, 2026.
LETRS Shoutout to Marissa Schomaker
“Through my work in the Lexia LETRS program, I have discovered just how meaningful and rewarding this journey truly is. Helping struggling readers grow is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. There is nothing more powerful than watching a child who once felt defeated begin to read with confidence… Every student is worth it. I believe wholeheartedly that every child can become a successful reader with the right instruction and support.”
Marissa’s passion, dedication, and belief in every learner truly reflect the heart of LETRS and the mission of Wyoming County Schools.
