Mrs. Sherry Younce is one of the Cosmetology Instructors at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center. She has been an instructor since 2006. She teaches Hairstyling 2 and Esthetics. Mrs. Younce has been a licensed cosmetologist for 44 years. She is licensed in WV and KY. She taught at East Kentucky Beauty School in Pikeville KY for three years and she owned her own salon for 26 years. Mrs. Younce is very effective in teaching student skills and the practice of running a business. The students in Cosmetology at the WCCTC are fortunate to have Mrs. Younce.👏🏼❤️

Wyoming East students participated in a lunch Game Day Rally for the Girls Basketball kick off of sectional tournaments. First lunch scavenger hunt winners were Piper Cook, Nina Blankenship, Jerry Whitt, Zane Baldwin and Hayden Prunest. Second lunch Hidden Golden ticket winners were Chloe Prichard, Andrea Laxton, Iain Furman, and Kasey Thomas.

The Wyoming County Career and Technical Center along with Wyoming East would like to congratulate Gabe Riling on signing with Boyd Machinery in Beckley. Gabe has been selected for the CAT THINK BIG PROGRAM. This program offers a paid internship and tuition reimbursement while earning an Associate Degree at Illinois Central College in Peoria, IL with the ability to work towards a bachelors degree through other programs sponsored by Boyd Machinery. We would also like to thank Ron Sorrell, Beckley Branch Manager and Greg Morgan, Beckley Service Manager for making these amazing opportunities available for our future workforce. 👏🏼⚙️

Michael, a student at Pineville Middle School, designed and presented Bus Aide Michaela Justice Griffith with a tee shirt to celebrate their experience riding WCBOE first electric school bus, The Nano Beast. Tomorrow will be the final day riding the electric bus during the pilot program. After some initial stress, Michael has really enjoyed the quietness of the EV bus, along with Michaela downloading his song lists to play over the entertainment system during his daily rides. Michael also presented driver Heather Rocchi with a special tee shirt.🚌❤️

6th, 7th, & 8th Grade OMS Softball Tryouts — February 27, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. 🚨Pending weather🚨 Tryouts will be held on the field at OMS. If raining, tryouts will be held in the gym at OMS. Please bring your cleats, tennis shoes, glove, or any item you may need. You MUST have an updated physical to tryout.
Students in the 6th, 7th, & 8th grade from ROAD BRANCH and GLEN FORK are encouraged and welcomed to tryout for our team.
If you have a 6th/7th grader who is still age-eligible to play little league but is trying out for middle school softball, please sign them up for little league, too! Extra playing time later in the season if they make it, and another year to practice and grow in the game if they don’t this year. Because the next year and tryout will be here before you know it!

The Penny Wars contest was intense, but the freshmen rose to the top by bringing in $67 in pennies! The sophomores bounced back after being sabotaged and nearly beat the 9th graders. Thank you to everyone who participated in the fun battle of the classes 🌎❤️

Mrs. Kelly Laxton is currently serving as a substitute instructor in the ProStart and Baking & Pastries program at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center. She is a 1995 graduate of Oceana High School. She received her Associates in Culinary Arts in 2000 from WV Northern Community College and her Regents degree in 2006 from West Liberty University. Mrs. Laxton served as ProStart instructor at the WCCTC from 2010-2018. She has worked in various bakeries and also as an Instructor at WV Northern College from 2004-2007 and Pastry Instructor at Mountain State University from 2008-2010. She is currently the owner of The Cakery and also Rae’s Diner in Oceana. Students in her classroom truly benefit from her experience, education and expertise in the culinary field.🧑🍳

The Wyoming County Career and Technical Center held their Career Fair at Westside High School. Westside students along with 6th-8th grade students from Baileysville, Huff, Oceana Middle and Road Branch were given the opportunity to participate in activities at the booths for each program. The activities were led by current WCCTC students.
